Hailing from Toledo, Ohio, James majored in journalism and French at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis.
He currently works as a web and communication specialist in higher education. He also works as a designer, social media and marketing coordinator, helping organizations large and small with design, social media and marketing needs.
James completed his MBA in marketing from UToledo's College of Business and Innovation in 2020.
He has worked for media companies large and small. He worked for five years at Toledo Free Press, a weekly newspaper in his hometown that closed its doors in April 2015. During his time there, he was design editor, managing the design desk and overseeing all visual elements for the company. He also reviewed movies and wrote about entertainment during his tenure, making weekly appearances on local TV and radio stations. He started as lead designer for the arts and entertainment Star edition.
During the summer of 2009, he was a design editor at the daily newspaper for the Chautauqua Institution in western New York.
In his free time, James enjoys puzzles, visiting Disney Parks, hanging out with family, going to the movies and running his Oscars blog, TheGoldKnight.com. He has covered the Oscars in Los Angeles seven times, including sitting in the bleacher seats along the Red Carpet in 2008 and again in 2018. He was featured on the front page of The Wall Street Journal in March of 2018 for his Oscars fanaticism.
